Hold’em Pot Limit vs. Omaha H/L
Pot Limit
I played these two games for 2
hours and 25 minutes at the same time. The Omaha Table had a $25.00 Max Buy-in
the Hold’em $50.00, but came in w/ $25.00 to keep it even. Both rooms had a
$0.25/$0.50 blind structure, both rooms maintained at least 7 players seated at
all times, though both remained full most of the time.
I played 19% of my dealt hands at the Omaha H/L table, 31% of my hands at the
Hold’em table – both very normal play rates for me, I won 33% of played
hands in both rooms and took no major bad beats in either room, and bluffed 2
significant wins in the Holdem Room.
Which room did I win or lose more cash in?? More information?? I played
aggressive in both rooms, Raising the pot with KJ Suited through AA, and in the
Omaha room raise w/ 4 wheel cards and a flush draw to AAKK Double Suited, in
both cases limiting competition and building large pots. Based on raw percentage
I should have won more than I lost in both rooms – I did, and all other things
being equal which room – I played fewer hands in the Omaha room.
After the 2 hour and 25 minutes ended the session up $ 37.00, not a bad session
had better but on par with my normal play, but in the Omaha H/L room ended up
$125.00 up!!
Why – it is the nature of the games, even though I out played the other
players in Hold’em with aggressive play and a tight table image, In the Omaha
H/L room, hand selection put me into pots where the size was much larger and
because I played hands that had both high and low options, I SCOOPED – took
the high and low or the high and half the low in monster pots. Played few hands,
won fewer, but won more cash..
This is a game worth learning and mastering – there is a lot of cash to be
made. Give it a shot, you may like it – or at least the cash you will win..
